A Delaware-based hotel company has set its sights on erecting a new hotel in York County near Interstate 83.
SSN Hotels, a hospitality company with seven Pennsylvania hotels, including an Econolodge in Lancaster County, is eyeing a site at 2064 Springwood Road in York Township, according to a public notice filed by the township. The site is near the Queensgate Towne Center off South Queen Street.
SSN has requested a special exception to establish a hotel use and a zoning variance for reduction of side setbacks to build a hotel in the commercial shopping district. A zoning hearing board meeting is slated for Aug. 28.
The site previously contained an MRI facility, but that building was torn down to make room for new development.
Officials for SSN have not returned calls or emails seeking comment on the hotel proposal. The company has built hotels for nearly every major hotel company, according to its website, though most of its properties operate under Hilton and Marriott brands.
Hilton- and Marriott-branded hotels — namely Tru and Home2 Suites by Hilton and Marriott’s Courtyard and Fairfield Inn & Suites hotels — have been dominating hotel development over the last two to three years in Central Pennsylvania as the economy has improved. The last development boom in hospitality was before the recession.
