The Schreiber center, of East Hempfield Township, provides pediatric therapy services.

The Stabler Foundation grant will provide a dollar-for-dollar match for any money raised by Schreiber Pediatric, up to $250,000. Schreiber has until June 1 next year to raise the matching funds.

If the center raises $250,000, it would mean $500,000 overall for Schreiber Pediatric, making it potentially the largest gift in the 80-year history of the organization, its officials said recently.

The grant will be used to add an infant room to Schreiber’s “Circle of Friends Academy” child care, which serves children as young as 1 year old.

The expansion will provide space to care for children with and without special needs, Schreiber officials said. Currently, there’s “a critical shortage of providers offering child care to infants with special needs,” a Schreiber news release said.

The money from the Stabler Foundation and the community would allow children as young as 6 weeks to enroll in Circle of Friends, once the room is fully operational, Schreiber officials added.
