In response to the closure of the Lancaster Mennonite School’s Hershey Campus, a group of parents and teachers have worked with New Life Church of Hershey to create a new, nondenominational Christ-centered school in the Hershey area. The new school will be called Hershey Christian Academy (HCA) and will open for the 2019-20 academic year.

According to Kylie Murray, the board president of HCA, the school has begun contract negotiations with four teachers and will soon begin accepting applications for additional teachers and other school staff. The school administrator is Chris Miller.

Murray says that the school hopes to enroll 80 students in grades pre-K 4 through grade 9. They intend to “keep class sizes small to encourage individualized learning,” says Murray. Additionally, HCA will offer special classes for homeschool students.

Tuition has been set at $5,990 for all grade levels; half-day kindergarten and part-time preschool will be offered for $3,595. Murray says that after-school care will be offered for an additional fee.

The school is working with New Life Church of Hershey, located at 99 Valley Road in Hummelstown, to finalize plans for its campus location.

Lancaster Mennonite School (LMS) opened its Hershey Campus, located at 1525 Sand Hill Road in Hummelstown, in 2015, after acquiring it from Hershey Christian School. LMS’s Hershey Campus, which serves 170 students in pre-K through grade 12, will not reopen in the fall.
