N.J.’s hospital president takes post at Penn State Hershey
University Hospital is a teaching hospital of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, now the subject of a N.J. Gov. Chris Christie-appointed committee that will report in September on whether to break up the state-owned medical school among a number of nonprofit institutions.
St. Barnabas Health Care System is in the midst of a detailed analysis of the feasibility of bringing University Hospital into St. Barnabas, a six-hospital system that includes Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.
Wittenstein is a Penn State graduate with strong ties to the university.
UMDNJ spokesman Jeffrey Tolvin confirmed Wednesday morning that Wittenstein will move to Penn State, which is expected to make an official announcement soon.
