Midstate startup installs car charging station at Park City

Charge Forward LLC held a launch event Friday for a two-car, solar-powered charging station in the parking lot of the popular Lancaster County shopping mall.

The unit’s solar canopy tracks the sun and moves throughout the day. Drivers can use the station free of charge.

Charge Forward, a new startup based in Elizabethtown, invested more than $7,000 to install the station in the parking lot between Sears and Kohl’s, LNP reported. Charge Forward founder and president Travis Eckert plans to make money on the venture through sales of advertising on a digital display attached to the station.

The unit is the company’s first charging station installation, according to LNP.

Park City joins a smattering of other businesses across the midstate to offer places for electric car owners to plug in. Many of those stations, including ones at Harrisburg International Airport and Lancaster County retirement community Willow Valley, levy a fee for their use.
