Mid Penn Bank hopes to open a new branch in Halifax Township in northern Dauphin County.
The bank, based in nearby Millersburg, has secured land on Peters Mountain Road with the intention of building a new full-service office. The plans are pending regulatory and township approvals, and Mid Penn does not yet have a planned opening date for the branch.
The endeavor is not Mid Penn‘s first foray into the Dauphin County township. The bank previously had a branch there, also on Peters Mountain Road, but closed it in 2009, said Brittany Zolko, Mid Penn’s communications director. It still has an ATM at that address.
“Mid Penn Bank has been headquartered in and has served Upper Dauphin County for almost 150 years,” said Mid Penn President and CEO Rory Ritrievi. “Having a full-service retail location in Halifax, one of the community jewels of upper Dauphin County, just makes sense. We have patiently waited for the right situation and timing, and we feel we are there now.”
Mid Penn currently has 21 branches in Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Luzerne, Northumberland and Schuylkill counties. It has plans to open two more – one in Lancaster County and another in Schuylkill County – in the coming months.
It is also in the process of buying the five-branch Scottdale Bank & Trust Company in western Pennsylvania. Mid Penn expects to have roughly $1.3 billion in assets after the acquisition.
