Methane-to-energy plant opens in Lebanon County

Electricity company PPL Corp. and the Greater Lebanon Refuse Authority today dedicated a renewable-energy generating facility at a landfill in Lebanon County.

Electricity company PPL Corp. and the Greater Lebanon Refuse Authority today dedicated a renewable-energy generating facility at a landfill in Lebanon County.

The plant will capture methane gas, which is created when landfill material decomposes, and use it to generate electricity. The plant is expected to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and power 2,500 homes with clean energy.

Allentown-based PPL trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol PPL.
