Ebert has served as district attorney from 1996 to 2006 and since 2018. In the interim, he was an elected Court of Common Pleas judge.  

“My office is responsible for the prosecution of all criminal cases committed in Cumberland County,” he said. 

Ebert was awarded the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape Outstanding Criminal Justice Award in 1999 and 2005. Also, in 2004-2005, he received the Trial Advocacy Award from the Association of Government Attorneys in Capital Litigation. He was president of the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association in 2005. 

Ebert, whose home is along the Appalachian Trail, said he likes to hike. “Additionally, I am a certified Scuba Dive Master. I enjoy diving because of the beauty and the ability to explore shipwrecks.”
