Pittsburgh-based Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, the commonwealth’s top residential real estate brokerage, can now call itself the third-largest real estate company in the country after a merger with RealtyUSA, the top broker in the state of New York.
It’s a step up for Howard Hanna, which has a growing presence in Central Pennsylvania and recently opened a Lancaster County office. The company had been the fourth-largest broker in the country.
The company closed nearly 67,000 transactions totaling $12 billion in sales volume last year. After adding Buffalo, N.Y.-based RealtyUSA, that number jumps to nearly 90,000 with closed sale volume of $16.2 billion.
RealtyUSA was the ninth-largest real estate company in the country last year.
Expansion in Buffalo and entry into the Syracuse and Albany markets was the next logical move for Howard Hanna, company officials said. It acquired Nothnagle Realtors in western New York last May.
Howard Hanna does not plan to change the name of the company or local leadership at RealtyUSA. But it will add the tagline “A Howard Hanna Company” to the logo.
