Manufacturers throughout Central Pennsylvania came out to celebrate making things from animal feed to circuit boards during a Mantec event Friday at Wyndridge Farm in York Township.
Manufacturers packed 1900s converted barn on the 77-acre farm to get a taste of Wyndridge’s four-year history in the agritourism business.
Manufacturers also heard some tips on best practices from a panel discussion among area manufacturing leaders.
The discussion featured four regional manufacturing executives: Ken Lefever, president of Environmental Recovery Corp. in Manheim Township, Lancaster County; Rocky Turnbaugh, vice president of operations of York-based Electronic Manufacturing Services Group Inc.; Jake Haas, vice president of operation of The Ames Companies Inc. in Hampden Township, Cumberland County; and Tim Markey, animal nutritionist for Zeigler Brothers Inc. in East Berlin, Adams County.
Turnbaugh and Markey emphasized the importance of listening to the needs of their customers, while Haas and Lefever encouraged business owners to take care of their staff because a staff that’s treated well will treat customers well.
The event’s keynote speaker was Jennifer Yuengling-Franquet, vice president of operations of D.G. Yuengling & Son Inc. Yuengling-Franquet is the sixth generation of a family brewing legacy that began in 1829 in Pottsville. She is one of four daughters running what is the country’s oldest brewery.
Mantec’s Proud to Manufacture in PA event is held every year in conjunction with Manufacturing Week and encourages business owners to take direct ownership of the workforce shortage, said John Lloyd, president and CEO of Mantec Inc.
“Manufacturers of all types and sizes in Pennsylvania are facing an increasingly complex marketplace. Events like this help bring awareness to some of those shared issues faced by all,” said Lloyd.
The annual gathering also serves as an opportunity to recognize area manufacturers for operational excellence, growth, innovation, technology and workforce development during an awards ceremony. Twenty finalists were nominated in four categories. The winners were:
