Lower Allen Twp. denies Liberty Forge development

Don’t expect condos to be built at Liberty Forge Golf Course
in Cumberland County any time soon.

Don’t expect condos to be built at Liberty Forge Golf Course in Cumberland County any time soon.

The Lower Allen Township Commissioners last night rejected a
zoning ordinance change that would have allowed Liberty Forge’s owners, LFGC
Inc., to construct multi-level condominium buildings, said Thomas Vernau, township
manager.

The township only permits a single-family residence per one
acre of land in the rural zoning district, where the golf course is located.
The zoning change, had it passed, would have allowed up to five or six residences
per acre.

Before last night’s vote, many residents disapproved of the
project because it would increase development and traffic on Lisburn Road, adjacent to the golf
course.

The commissioners gave no reasons for the denial other than
that it had been recommended by other review boards, Vernau said.

LFGC President Luke Grumbine did not immediately return
calls for comment.
