A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for July 28 at Community Homes of Lebanon’s two-unit house for people with disabilities, which is now ready for occupancy.
The project, at 731 Maple St. in Lebanon, is an important step toward providing affordable housing for those with handicaps, according to a release.
“This building is a wonderful example of local people helping local people,” Community Homes CEO Charlie Rush said in the release. “It was a team effort that included Woodland Contractors, Steckbeck Engineering, Stony Bridge Landscaping, Fulton Bank and the support of our board of directors, led by our chair, Glenn Wenger.”
Local architectural firm Beers and Hoffman designed the building and interior with “proof of concept” in mind, meaning designs that are adaptable for future housing plans.
“These units provide excellent housing tailored to the needs of our community,” architect Bob Hoffman explained in the release. “These units will allow disabled people to live comfortably while remaining independent.”
“There is a great disparity between supply and demand for affordable housing,” Rush said. “We are determined to close the gap, but it will take both volunteers and financial support to take us where we need to go.”
Community Homes of Lebanon’s next, similar project is 23-unit housing on Canal Street in Lebanon in 2022.
