Lancaster’s Northwest Gateway gets national kudos

Lancaster’s Northwest Gateway project is one of 10 projects to receive a national award recognizing innovative brownfield redevelopment efforts.

The initiative has been honored with 2010 Phoenix Award for its U.S. Environmental Protection Agency region, which comprises Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

The awards are part of the National Brownfields Conference — held earlier this week in Philadelphia — and affiliated with the Phoenix Awards Institute Inc., a Hampden Township-based nonprofit.

The Northwest Gateway is a collaboration among Armstrong World Industries Inc., EDC Finance Corp., Franklin & Marshall College and Lancaster General Health to redevelop a site formerly home to an Armstrong plant.
