Russell Baxley will be the new chief operating officer for Lancaster Regional Medical Center, the for-profit organization confirmed today.
However, LRMC Marketing Director Danielle Gilmore said a South Carolina paper’s report that CEO Bob Moore is retiring this year and Baxley is being groomed for his position are not true.
“Bob is not retiring at the end of this year, and Russ is not training to take over,” Gilmore said.
The paper also incorrectly reported that Baxley will be part of the leadership of LRMC sister hospital Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center, Gilmore said. He started July 1 and replaced Deborah Willwerth, who is now the administrator at Heart of Lancaster.
Both LRMC and HLRMC are part of the Florida-based chain Health Management Associates Inc., which trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol HMA.
Baxley, a native of South Carolina, served as COO at an HMA facility in that state, Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, for the past two years. He was previously assistant chief financial officer and associate administrator at Paris Regional Medical Center in Texas.
According to the company website, Baxley completed his undergraduate degree in microbiology at Clemson University and his graduate degree in health care administration at the University of South Carolina, and he enjoys running, early-morning workouts and boating and water activities such as wakeboarding and skiing.
