Lancaster General Hospital (LGH) opened a new operating room
on its main campus yesterday that is designed specifically for trauma patients.
The roughly 730-square-foot room’s layout will allow more
than one surgical procedure to be performed at the same time, which is often
required for trauma victims.
LGH treats almost half of all Lancaster County
emergency cases, and more than 60 percent of emergency cases in Lancaster,
hospital officials said.
The new operating room also has digital-imaging technology,
can be used for open-heart procedures, and has a temperature range that will
facilitate the treatment of hypothermia patients.
Hospital staff created it by combining two operating rooms
that were not it in use.
