In recent years, Josh Weaver has seen an increase in the number of people from York County looking for a memorial stone for a loved one, and making the drive to one of his company’s locations.
To meet that need, Weaver, vice president of New Holland-based Weaver Memorials Inc. and the fourth generation of his family in the business, has opened its first store in York County, its eighth in the midstate region.
The new retail location opened last week at 2261 Royal St., in Dover Township, across from the Grand View Golf Course.
The new half-million-dollar store has a single memorial counselor on staff, and is designed to be “bright, modern and open,” Josh Weaver said Friday.
Recognizing the sad time it is for visitors who have just lost a loved one, “we’ve attempted to design the building to be open, bright and inviting,” he said, with floor-to-ceiling windows and other features designed to be comforting and welcoming for families.
Weaver Memorials began in business in 1839, and specializes in memorial headstones and civic and military memorial building products. It has some 20 employees across its eight locations, Josh Weaver said.
The Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial, in the city’s Penn’s Landing area, is among the firm’s projects.
“We are quality-focused. We’re not necessarily the cheapest, but we are the best,” said Josh Weaver, a Mount Joy resident.
Along with York, Weaver Memorials has stores in New Holland, Willow Street and Mount Joy in Lancaster County; Reading and Strausstown in Berks County; Lebanon and Downingtown, Chester County.
