CoLab Inc., a Lancaster firm that provides consulting services for nonprofits and social enterprises, recently received official designation as a B Corporation.
B Corps are companies that make social and environmental responsibility an official tenet of their business plan. To receive designation, businesses have to undergo vetting by B Lab, a Philadelphia-area nonprofit that rates the companies based on factors like environmental sustainability, employee benefits and transparency.
Businesses have to receive a score of at least 80 to gain B Corp certification. CoLab had a score of 111.6.
The business is now one of more than 2,300 B Corps across the world and one of several in Lancaster County. Other Lancaster County B Corps include Two Dudes Painting Co., Work Wisdom and The Lancaster Stroopies Co.
“[We] believe B Corp certification is a natural extension of coLab’s foundational principles,” coLab CEO Kate Gallagher said in a news release.
Gallagher launched coLab in 2014. The business specializes in sustainability planning, strategic planning, development coaching and similar consulting services.
CoLab plans to celebrate its certification during an open house Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Candy Factory, a co-working space in downtown Lancaster.
