S. Dale High, chairman of Lancaster County’s
The High Companies, has been appointed to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce board of
directors for 2009.
In the position, High will help the board address issues
faced by state and local chambers, associations and other businesses. He also
will help move policies and programs, and advise senior chamber staff,
according to the chamber.
chamber is the biggest business federation in the world, representing more than
3 million businesses and organizations, according to the chamber.
High graduated from Elizabethtown College
in 1963 and became chairman of his family-owned company in 1977. There are
numerous companies, from manufacturing to construction, under the High
umbrella. They include High Steel Structures Inc., High Construction Co., High
Concrete Group and High Hotels. High Companies employs more than 2,500 workers.
High is the past recipient of numerous awards, including the
Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry‘s Business Leader of the Year
award, and financial consulting company Ernst & Young‘s award for National
Entrepreneur of the Year, Real Estate and Construction.
