A top official with the Lancaster Housing Opportunity Partnership, one who has helped to boost fair-housing opportunities in the Lancaster area in recent years, is leaving his position.

Nathan Roth, director of the Housing Equality & Equity Institute at LHOP, a nonprofit aimed at boosting opportunities for affordable housing, has played a key role since joining LHOP in 2011, its CEO Ray D’Agostino said Thursday.

Roth, who is leaving LHOP for a position with the federal Department of Housing & Urban Development in Washington, D.C., has helped lead the agency’s mission to “cultivate partnerships and resources to increase the availability of quality, fair, and affordable housing,” D’Agostino said.

Under Roth, the institute developed rental and fair-housing education while providing housing-related guidance for housing providers, government, community agencies and residents.

He saw his role at LHOP as being an “educator, listener and facilitator,” Roth said in an interview Thursday.

Roth’s institute, among other accomplishments during his tenure, produced over 30,000 copies of a tenant/landlord rights manual in eight languages.

LHOP has nine staff members and serves all of Lancaster County, helping over 2,000 individuals buy their first homes, D’Agostino said: “We believe that good housing is the foundation of a great community.”

Roth, a Lancaster native, said that in his new role with HUD he will evaluate and develop policies to help communities ensure fair housing opportunities for all residents.
