With a career in nursing that spans nearly 30 years, it’s safe to say that Joye Gingrich personifies nursing.
As the chief nursing officer at UPMC Carlisle, her passion for the profession is demonstrated every day.
In addition to successfully providing overall leadership for the nursing division, she works alongside her nursing team when needed.
Combining a traditional and out-of-the-box way of thinking, Gingrich mentors and develops her teams of nurses to maximize their talents in order to provide the best patient care and experience.
Within the community, she serves on her church council as the mission chairperson, as a board member on the Juniper Community Missions Board and as a volunteer providing much needed nursing and humanitarian care to the citizens of Haiti.
According to Gingrich one of her most rewarding experiences was being the mom of a new nurse during
a pandemic. While being a new nurse is difficult under normal circumstances, being one during a pandemic is very difficult. Every day Gingrich would talk to her daughter to offer support and guidance.
“Our daily ‘coaching’ sessions helped her move forward and be able to go back and care for patients again the next day,” said Gingrich. “They also helped me better support my new nurses and made me a better leader through the pandemic.”
According to Gingrich, her inspiration to become a nurse began in high school after undergoing
surgery. The nurse who cared for her left a lasting impression, one that motivated her to work hard all the way through nursing school.
“I am thankful every day that I was able to be successful in nursing school and never forgot the impact of that nurse back in high school,” said Gingrich. “I try to be that nurse for others. It is because of her that I am the nurse I am today.”
