Just before 1 p.m. Friday, BB&T Corp. in a series of tweets announced that its systems are being restored and that its automated phone service and ATMs are now available.
“Please be aware some of the info you will see in your accounts has not yet been fully updated from yesterday,” BB&T said.
Customers have expressed outrage on Twitter, some saying they haven’t received their direct deposits, others citing concerns that their automatic mortgage payments were not posted.
The bank said it expects balances and transactions to become current later Friday, and will continue to provide updates as that occurs.
“To our clients, we are deeply sorry this has happened. We hear your frustration, and we are committed to making this right,” the company tweeted. “If you’ve incurred fees directly related to this outage, we will waive or reimburse those fees. We’re also here to assist with any other challenges you’ve experienced. Thank you so much for your continued patience.”
The outage lasted nearly 24 hours. The company said the issue was caused by an equipment malfunction.
Representatives for BB&T could not be reached for comment.
According to its most recent earnings report, BB&T posted net income of $2.42 billion for 2017. That is down from $2.44 billion in 2016.
BB&T has $221 billion in assets and operates over 2,100 branches in 15 states and Washington, D.C. It has been doing business in Central Pennsylvania since taking over the former Susquehanna Bancshares Inc. in 2015.
