A York
doctor has been named Pennsylvania Family Physician of the Year.

Dr. Andre Lijoi was honored by the Pennsylvania Academy of
Family Physicians during a ceremony June 27 in Derry
Township, Dauphin County.

Lijoi is a physician at York Hospital’s
Thomas Hart Family Practice Center and associate director of the hospital’s
family-medicine residency program.

Lijoi’s career in medicine has included time working in an
Appalachian community in Kentucky and running
a solo practice in Hanover.
He came to York Hospital in the mid-1990s.

Lijoi is one of more than 3,000 active family physicians
statewide who were eligible for the academy’s award. He exemplifies the
characteristics necessary to be an effective family doctor, including
knowledge, communication and a caring spirit, said Dr. Bruce Bushwick, director
of York Hospital’s family-medicine residency
program.

“Dr. Lijoi is a healer, and he welcomes the opportunity to
sacrifice for his patients,” Bushwick said. “His compassion is grounded in love
and humility.”
