Filming along the Susquehanna River could begin as early as the spring for the $10 million “Expedition Chesapeake” initiative of the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts.
Funded in part by a $1 million gaming grant from Dauphin County, the project will include a 42-minute 3-D Imax film about the Chesapeake Bay watershed. That film will be narrated by Animal Planet’s Jeff Corwin.
The Harrisburg science and arts center project, which is being funded by sponsors and donors, also will include a series of television documentaries, an online learning experience and a traveling science exhibit.
The watershed is home to 17 million people across parts of Delaware, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia, and the entire District of Columbia.
The county’s gaming grant program is funded by slots revenue generated by Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course in East Hanover Township, Dauphin County.
