The Cumberland County Planning Commission on Jan. 22 elected Chris Knarr, a community planning specialist with Lancaster-based Rettew Associates Inc., to be the commission’s chairman.

Knarr replaces Jackie Eakin of Silver Spring Township as head of the commission, said Kirk Stoner, the county’s planning department director. Eakin will remain on the commission, he said.

Knarr has been a member of the planning commission since 2006, when he replaced Scott Wyland, who resigned to focus on other obligations, Stoner said.

Knarr also is secretary of the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission, an advisory panel serving Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties. He has 14 years of experience with Rettew, working on municipal ordinances and development plans. Knarr is a six-year member of the planning commission in Mechanicsburg, where he lives.

Knarr’s term on the Cumberland County commission expires at the end of 2012.
