The state Department of General Services is hoping to generate up to $9.3 million through the sale of five unused properties, including a 7.8-acre parcel that includes the former Harrisburg State Hospital in Harrisburg and Susquehanna Township.
The properties are part of the state’s 2012 Real Property Disposition Plan. The sale of the properties, announced May 8, could save the state more than $3.6 million in annual maintenance costs.
The other properties on the list are:
• Scotland School for Veterans Children in Franklin County: 166 acres and 70 buildings.
• Allentown State Hospital in Lehigh County: 165 acres and 30 buildings.
• Weaversville Secure Treatment Facility in Northampton County: 16 acres and three buildings.
• Fort LeBoeuf Museum in Erie County: 1.18 acres and one building.
The Department of General Services is expected to submit a plan to the governor for final approval by June 15. The entire General Assembly will vote on the plan later this year.
Under Gov. Tom Corbett’s direction, the state has sold 22 surplus properties and brought in more than $25.5 million in nontax revenue.
