In brief: Oprah doc to visit York

A York
nonprofit is bringing a bit of “Oprah” to the midstate.

A York
nonprofit is bringing a bit of “Oprah” to the midstate.

The Susan
P. Byrnes
Health Education
Center is planning a
fundraiser featuring Dr.  Mehmet Oz, a
professor of surgery at Columbia University in New
York. Oz has gained notoriety for his frequent
appearances on Oprah and on the Discovery Health channel promoting wellness and
healthy lifestyles.

Oz is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at the York Expo
Center’s Memorial Hall
East. Tickets for the event are $50, $75 and $100.

Convincing Oz to come to York
is a major coup for the Health
Education Center,
said Anne E. Bahn, the nonprofit’s director of giving. The center educates
children and adults about making healthy choices.

“We are thrilled,” Bahn said. “His message is so synonymous
with our mission.”

Tickets are available by contacting the Health Education
Center at 848-3064.
