The Midtown Scholar bookstore will reopen Sept. 13 in a bigger location, at 1302 N. Third St. in Harrisburg, down the street from its original home.
Hours on opening day are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. to coincide with Harrisburg’s annual Gallery Walk, said Eric Papenfuse, the bookstore’s owner. Regular hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. It will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
Including the purchase of two adjacent properties, the project cost more than $1 million, he said. He would not disclose an exact amount.
The store will house 100,000 volumes, a café, a stage for musical performances and other events, and an art gallery, Papenfuse said.
There also will be outside seating atop The Midtown Scholar’s retro-style marquee, he said.
Papenfuse closed the original 3,000-square-foot bookstore last year to renovate the new 10,000-square-foot space that last was an antique and furniture store. It originally was a department store. The Midtown Scholar bookstore is an extension of Papenfuse’s online book business that goes by the same name.
