In brief: Massaro nabs award

Downtown Harrisburg is home to the state’s general manager of the year, and Swatara Township is home to the state’s lodging employee of the year and department manager of the year.

Joseph Massaro was named the 2007 General Manager of the Year by the PA Tourism & Lodging Association at the association’s annual awards reception May 14. Massaro has been the general manager of the Hilton Harrisburg for just over a year.

The award honors a general manager each year who demonstrates professionalism in operating a property and takes a leadership role in the industry. Hotel revenues and profitability have increased at the Hilton under Massaro’s leadership.

Thomas Spencer of Holiday Inn Harrisburg East in Swatara Township was named Lodging Employee of the Year by the association, and Dawn Stuart of the Holiday Inn Harrisburg East was named Department Manager of the Year.
