Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center earned Magnet status for the second time.
The program by the American Nurses Credentialing Center singles out health care organizations for outstanding quality and professionalism. There are 395 Magnet organizations worldwide, with less than 7 percent of U.S. health care organizations qualifying.
The status is valid for four years. In the past year, Hershey submitted more than 3,500 pages of documentation and hosted a three-day site appraisal in pursuing the designation.
ANCC singled out Penn State Hershey for exemplary practices in three areas: advancing nursing research, using technology to incorporate input from nurses in the design of patient care areas, and involving nurses in the developing protocols to protect human research subjects.
