In brief: EMS, ambulance join forces

Heather Stauffer//April 4, 2014

The agreement pairs a West Shore EMS paramedic with a Dillsburg EMS emergency medical technician and ambulance for 911 calls, 24/7, creating a mobile intensive care unit. It will serve Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs, Carroll and Franklin townships and portions of Monroe, Warrington and Washington townships.
Patients will no longer receive two bills when they need both an ambulance and a paramedic, a news release said, and there will be no increase in municipal tax contributions.
“In areas where West Shore EMS currently is the first-due advanced life support unit, we expect to see at least a 10-minute improvement in having a paramedic arriving on scene,” said Paul Christophel, executive director of West Shore EMS, which is a service of Holy Spirit Health System.
