In brief: Art on Saturdays

On March 29, LancasterArts will launch the downtown's first Artists' Saturday.

On March 29, LancasterArts will launch the downtown's first Artists' Saturday.

The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. along Prince Street and the surrounding area. It will feature 32 professional artists in 23 venues. Sites include City Folk on Prince Street, Demuth Museum on King Street and Lancaster Galleries on Water Street. Artists will give gallery talks throughout the day.

The goal of the event is to attract visitors with more than a casual interest in art, whether it be a potential or established collector of art, said Elizabeth Todd Lambert, president and chief executive officer of the group.

"The objectives are to help people become more comfortable with their own taste and then also to become comfortable with investing in fine art," Lambert said.

Five venues will offer oil-painting, watercolor, color-application technique, bronze casting and carving demonstrations. Parlor Art Space on Laurel Street will host an Artists' Zoo, where visitors can watch five artists complete a piece of art by 2 p.m.

If the event is a success, it could be offered on a quarterly basis, Lambert said.
