Cumberland County usually outpaces Dauphin County for monthly home sales, but July was exceptionally strong for the West Shore, according to the latest numbers from the Greater Harrisburg Association of Realtors.
The average home sold in July in Cumberland County was on the market for just 49 days, down from 73 days a year ago. In Dauphin County, the average days on market for a home sold in July was 72 days, down from 88 a year ago.
Cumberland County accounted for 374 sales in July compared with 308 in Dauphin County. And the median sale price jumped to $190,000 from $182,500 last year in Cumberland County. Dauphin County’s median was fairly flat at $155,900.
In the Harrisburg area, which also includes Perry County and portions of other neighboring counties, there were 938 total sales, according to the association. That was up from 895 a year ago.
The median sale price was $175,500, up from $167,500 in July 2015.
The bulk of the 938 sales were homes priced under $200,000. But there were also increases in the $200,000 to $299,999 range, with 221 sales compared with 207 last year; and in the $300,000 to $399,999 range, with 90 sales compared with 77.
