After opening a new boutique hotel last month in Dauphin County, a Harrisburg-area hospitality company today opened the doors on a hotel in Cumberland County.
Hotelier Areya Management has opened a Home2 Suites by Hilton off Bent Creek Boulevard in Silver Spring Township. The all-suite hotel, part of a growing trend of new hotels that cater to corporate travelers staying for multiple days, has 89 rooms and is located next to a La Quinta Inn & Suites owned by Areya.
Construction of the hotel, which was led by Franklin County-based Brechbill & Helman Construction Co. Inc., began last summer.
Hilton’s new brands, including Home2 and Tru, have been popping up all over Central Pennsylvania for the past year.
The Home2 project is Areya’s first Hilton hotel.
Hotel Indigo is part of InterContinental Hotels Group, or IHG, which is known for the Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands, as well as Candlewood Suites and Crowne Plaza.
Areya also is building a new SpringHill Suites in the Chambersburg area.
In recent years, Areya has converted a few Harrisburg-area hotels to other brands, including the La Quinta that sits next to the new Home2 site. The hotel had been a Ramada Limited and Baymont Hotel.
The company also transformed a Microtel Inn in Enola into a Best Western.
Areya has a total of 11 hotels open in southcentral Pennsylvania, said Dan Johnson, vice president of operations.
Johnson said the approval of a mini-casino license in western Cumberland County has prompted the company to begin looking for new opportunities to build or buy hotels in the Carlisle and Chambersburg areas. Areya also is interested in Lancaster and York counties, he said.
The company is hoping to stay within a two-hour drive of its headquarters in Swatara Township.
Areya plans to focus on building Hilton- and Marriott-branded hotels, Johnson added. However, the company also is open to other hotel brands if the right deal comes along, he said, citing the Indigo project as an example.
