Highmark will give Pittsburgh-based West Penn Allegheny Health System a $50 million grant up front to strengthen its four hospitals, then provide the rest of the money over four years, including $75 million for scholarships for students attending medical schools affiliated with West Penn, according to the insurance company.
The affiliation between Highmark and West Penn is part of broader efforts for the insurance company to develop alternative health care options for high-quality at lower costs, according to Highmark.
