Hershey’s CocoaPlex theater to close, Penn State Health to move in

The CocoaPlex Cinema Center in Derry Township, Dauphin County, is closing by the end of the year and Penn State Health plans to use the space to consolidate four of its services.

CocoaPlex’s owner, Room One Corporation, announced the closing today on its Facebook page, ending a 20-year run.

After closing, the Penn State Health plans to lease the 20,000-square-foot space to expand Penn State Health Medical Group – Cocoa’s family medicine practice next door, according to a press release issued by the health system.

The theater is also close to a second family medicine practice, and is less than a mile from the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center campus.

Penn State Health plans to renovate the space and consolidate a number of its practices and services in the former theater by the end of 2020, including.

Two internal medicine practices operating at Milton S. Hershey, as well as Adult Endocrinology and Nephrology services at the University Physicians Center medical clinic are all planned to be moved to the CocoaPlex space.

“This new location is an opportunity to expand the specialized services that we provide as the region’s only academic medical center in a location that will enhance access and convenience for our patients,” said Deborah Berini, president of the Hershey Medical Center.

The move will allow for Penn State Health to utilize the space left from the consolidates services to create additional capacity for pediatric specialties at Hershey Medical Center and expand the other services available at its University Physician Center which include surgery, audiology and dermatology.
