A little piece of Pennsylvania in the heart of New York City is about to get a lot bigger.
The Hershey Co. today announced that it plans to triple the size of its presence in Manhattan’s Times Square, with the expanded location set to open late next year.
“Our vision is to create a destination where people of all ages can interact with our iconic brands and immerse themselves in all things chocolate,” said Suzanne Jones, vice president of The Hershey Experience.
The current location, at Broadway and West 48th Street, opened in 2002, will remain open during construction of the new store at at 20 Times Square. It is one of eight stores worldwide, with locations including Niagara Falls, Las Vegas, Singapore and Shanghai.
Entrances for the new Times Square store will be on West 47th Street and 7th Avenue, officials said, and the location will include a digital billboard.
Construction will begin in early 2017.
Headquartered in Dauphin County, The Hershey Co. employs about 21,000 employees worldwide, including about 4,300 workers in Derry Township.
