Medical Center
this morning is dedicating a $6.6 million facility designed to bolster medical
training through the use of clinical simulations.

The 8,000-square-foot facility, known as the Penn State Hershey
Clinical Simulation
Center
, is on the Derry Township
campus of the Penn State College of Medicine.

Through the use of simulations and virtual reality trainers, the center
will allow people to practice procedures ranging from inserting an intravenous
line to performing laparoscopic surgery, according to the medical center.

The simulation center also houses the 10 model clinic rooms of the
Standardized Patient Program, in which actors and volunteers portray patients
so medical students may practice interacting with them.
