Hershey Co. will close its Smiths Falls plant in Ontario, Canada. The Derry Township-based candy-producing company made the announcement yesterday. A phased shutdown of the plant will begin later this year, with operations continuing there through next year, Hershey spokesman Kirk Saville said. The start date for the phased closure is not known and will depend on market conditions, Saville said. Hershey is committed to working with the union representing workers the closure will affect, Saville said. Saville would not say how many workers the closure will affect or which plants could be affected by the move in the future.
