Health care report 2008: Next to the list: Assisted-living facilities

According to the Pa. Department of Public Welfare, which regulates them, there are 150 personal-care/assisted-living facilities in the area. Here’s the breakdown by county:
Adams – 8
Cumberland – 25
Dauphin – 23
Lancaster – 57
Lebanon – 22
Perry – 3
York – 34

As of their most recent inspections, the facilities had 6,969 residents total, about 70 percent of their licensed capacity.

A majority of facilities in Cumberland, Dauphin and Lancaster counties are nonprofit. Adams, Lebanon, Perry and York counties have more for-profit homes.
