Harrisburg University’s newest research center will evaluate the evolution of the Esports industry, its impact and its benefits.
Harrisburg University of Science and Technology introduced the new Center for Applied Research in Esports (CARE) this week.
The center, a continuation of the school’s focus on the industry of competitive video games, will allow the school and its professors to research the health and performance of athletes, the potential for professional advancement and issues surrounding social equity within the industry, said Charles Palmer, the HU professor leading CARE.
Along with heading the new center, Palmer leads HU’s Bachelor of Science in Esports, Management and Production program, which began last spring.
CARE has already partnered with Providence, Rhode Island-based Brown University on an Esports health and brain study.
“The center will serve as a hub for interdisciplinary research surrounding an industry that continues to experience tremendous growth,” said Dr. Eric Darr, president of HU. “Professors, students, industry experts and more will collaborate on research to understand the social impact, the shape and role of the industry, and the economic and educational opportunities Esports offers going forward.”
