After nearly 80 years as neighbors, two property owners along North Front Street in Harrisburg have joined forces — at least temporarily.
Millers Mutual Group Inc. has sold its riverfront headquarters to the Harrisburg Area YMCA, the two organizations announced today.
The $750,000 sale for the property at 805 N. Front St. closed on March 28, according to Dauphin County deed records.
Millers Mutual, which has been in the building at Front and Forster streets since 1937, has outgrown the space, officials said. The company employs more than 70 people.
But Millers Mutual plans to stay in the building under a lease deal with the YMCA until it finds a new space.
The regional commercial property and casualty insurer has hired Campbell Commercial Real Estate Inc. to identify office options.
The YMCA plans to use the Millers property for additional parking and eventually move the organization’s corporate offices into the building, said Richard Curl, the YMCA’s president and CEO.
The Harrisburg Area YMCA is the eighth-oldest YMCA system in the country, having continuously served Harrisburg and the region since 1854. The East Shore Branch YMCA, formerly known as the Central YMCA, opened in 1933.
Millers Mutual was founded in 1890.
