Five midstate businesses, including a new brewery in Cumberland County, have received state loans as part of a program to bolster economic development in Pennsylvania.

The Wolf administration on Wednesday announced 13 low-interest loans through the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority. Those loans, all fixed at 2 percent and totaling $8.7 million, went to borrowers in nine counties.

One of the recipients was Mellow Mink Brewing, which is slated to open this year in Hampden Township. Mellow Mink was approved for a 10-year loan for $98,300. The loan, which was facilitated through the Cumberland Area Economic Development Corp., will help the brewery acquire machinery and equipment to be installed in its facility off the Carlisle Pike.

Other local projects to receive PIDA loans were:

  • Higher Information Group LLC in Dauphin County received a five-year, $300,000 loan through Capital Region Economic Development Corp. to help acquire new equipment that will be added to the company’s inventory of commercial copiers and printers.
  • Three projects in Lancaster County received funding through the EDC Finance Corp. They included $400,000 for Andrew and Andrea Bollinger for the expansion of a dairy farming operation, Meadow Spring Farm, in Lititz. Cody and Dustin Musser were approved for a $400,000 loan to help acquire a 44-acre farm they rent near their existing farm in Mount Joy. And Josiah and Chelsea Rohrer were approved for a $400,000 loan to help them acquire a 140-acre family farm in Ralpho Township.

Last year, PIDA approved $65 million in loans that resulted in $199 million in private investment.
