Good Samaritan sells dialysis center to DaVita

DaVita is a division of DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc., a Fortune 500 company. At most recent report, DaVita owned or provided administrative services at more than 2,000 outpatient dialysis centers in the United Sates, serving nearly 160,000 people. DaVita also operates close to 50 outpatient dailysis centers in ten other countries.
DaVita will provide a variety of kidney care services – hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and home hemodialysis training – to patients at the outpatient facility. According to Karen Mooney, DaVita’s group regional operations director, the company has logged 13 straight years of improved clinical outcomes, with benefits including reductions in hospitalizations and infections.
“This transition will benefit dialysis patients and Good Samaritan,” said Good Samaritan President and CEO Robert J. Longo. “Patients will continue to have access to a high-level quality of care and latest technology in a convenient outpatient setting. DaVita brings a strong reputation for providing exemplary kidney care services. As the delivery of kidney care services continues to become more complex, it makes sense to entrust our patients with firm that focuses exclusively on this type of service. As for Good Samaritan, this move enables the health system to continue focusing on core healthcare services and preparing for healthcare reform.”
According to a news release, Good Samaritan began preliminary discussions about a sale in spring 2012, and DaVita will retain all of the center’s clinical staff. Terms of the deal are not being disclosed.
The Good Samaritan Health System, which has been serving Lebanon County for 124 years, includes a 172-bed acute care hospital and many outpatient services. Following a layoff, the health system announced earlier this year that it is seeking a strategic partner.
