Girls Code Club to return to Lancaster Science Factory for a 4th year

Leslie Penkunas//August 7, 2019

The Lancaster Science Factory has announced the return of its Girls Code Club, a program that introduces girls ages 8 through 13 to computer science concepts and coding applications over the course over nine facilitated sessions throughout the 2019-2020 school year. It will be the fourth year for the program.

Participants will be introduced to coding in hands-on and collaborative sessions. Those with previous coding experience will have concepts reinforced and be challenged to try new things.

There will be three cohort classes for up to 25 girls each. Cohort 1 will meet the third Saturdays from September through May from 9-10:30 a.m.; Cohort 2 will meet the third Saturdays from September through May from 11 a.m.-12:30 pm.; and Cohort 3 will meet First Fridays, September through May, from 6-9 p.m. Girls who attend at least six of the nine sessions can participate in a special night out at the Science Factory with their families at the end of the school year.

The cost for the Girls Code Club is $99, which includes the nine facilitated sessions, all equipment and material, and a Girl’s Code Club t-shirt. Scholarships are available for families in need on a first come, first served basis. Click here to download the scholarship application. Submit your completed form to Amanda Bakay at [email protected] or in person at the Lancaster Science Factory admission desk.

The Lancaster Science Factory is located at 454 New Holland Avenue in Lancaster.
