Giant’s new Colonial Park store opens Nov. 11

It’s out with the old, in with the new for Giant Food Stores in Lower Paxton Township.

The Cumberland County-based supermarket chain will add about 80 jobs when it debuts its new Colonial Park store next week at 5005 Jonestown Road.

The 69,000-square-foot location, in a former Gander Mountain sporting goods store, will replace an older, smaller store at 5074 Jonestown Road. The older location has 68,000 square feet of space.

Giant officials said the old store will close for business at 5 p.m. Nov. 10. Its replacement will open at 8 a.m. the following day.

The total number of Jonestown Road associates will increase to 250, store officials said, and all current associates are being offered positions at the new store location.

Sherry Beitler, a 29-year grocery veteran, has been appointed manager of the new store, which will be open from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.

Beitler recently served as store manager of the chain’s Temple store in Berks County.

“We’re really excited to open the doors to our new Jonestown Road store that showcases an easier-to-shop format, our signature fresh products with even more organics, and a Beer and Wine Eatery,” Beitler said.

Among its amenities, the new store will feature “a vast, open hall that has the atmosphere of a fresh market,” Giant officials said.
