Gary Erb has served as president of Ira G. Steffy & Son for 12 years.
“I’m a high energy type of leader that gives our employees the space and support they need to do their job,” he said. “Our quality staff appreciates the fact that no one is looking over their shoulder. I also have very high standards, so we strive for perfection on every job. Ultimately, we want a happy customer on every job we complete. Honesty, hard work and integrity have been the key ingredients to our successes over the years.”
Erb began as an apprentice draftsman in 1980, doing detailing. The steel industry then went into a recession, so he attended Penn State and earned a degree in structural design and civil engineering. In 1986, he started as a project manager with S.S. Fisher Steel Corp.
In his down time, “I am an avid hunter and enjoy being outdoors,” Erb said. “My passion is whitetail hunting and trying to outsmart a mature whitetail buck. Last year, I had the honor of being the grand champion at the Kiamichi Big Buck Classic in Oklahoma after harvesting a buck that scored 162 1/8’’. I also enjoy tinkering around my property with various odd jobs such as mowing trails, installing and/or maintaining tree stands and huts, cutting firewood, etc.”
