HARRISBURG, Pa. In an effort to help area baby boomers and seniors use their personal cars and driving accessories safely and effectively, Freedom Toyota will show attendees at the Dauphin County 50Plus Expo why it is important to re-adjust car settings and equipment as their physical capabilities change. The Harrisburg dealership is partnering with area AAA (American Automobile Association) offices to help aging drivers understand the interaction between their changing physical characteristics and their car settings. At the Expo in Hershey on May 30, AAA will provide a trained technician to work personally with show attendees and demonstrate how they can properly adjust auto accessories to safely operate their vehicles.
For example, technicians will check foot positioning to make sure a driver is fully accessing the pedals in order to avoid leg fatigue and delayed reactions in traffic. Other areas of interest will include proper adjustment of mirrors to minimize blind spots and safe seating distances from the steering wheel to help prevent injury from an inflating air bag. In all cases, resource information will be provided to help drivers make adjustments and operate their cars safely.
Eric Savage, president of Freedom Toyota, says, Imagine a world where no one loses a life or a loved one on the road. Unfortunately, too many in our area know the pain of traffic injuries and losses. Thats why we are sponsoring these free car fitting demonstrations – to show local residents how they can better protect themselves and those they love on our highways.
He adds, We are grateful to AAA for helping us educate older drivers and make our roads safer for everyone.
The 13th annual Dauphin County 50Plus Expo will be held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, at Hershey Lodge on West Chocolate Avenue at University Drive.
