Four Clipper Magazine founders to retire in June

The men who founded Clipper Magazine 30 years ago are retiring en masse at the end of June, the company announced today.

The group consists of CEO Steve Zuckerman, COO Ian Ruzow, Publisher Bob Zuckerman and Executive Vice President of Sales Rob Liss, who said jointly in a news release that “at this point in our lives, we want to shift our focus and expand our involvement in our other ventures.”
The Lancaster County-based company was acquired by Gannett in 2003. Steve Hauber has been named CEO of Clipper.
“Thirty years ago, we would never have predicted the fun and sometimes wild ride we’ve enjoyed growing this company from a student coupon flier into a national print and digital marketing brand,” said Ruzow.
Zuckerman added, “We will forever be grateful for the privilege of working with a group of amazing and talented individuals over this time, and much of the credit for Clipper’s success rests with them. Clipper is part of us and it will always be close in our hearts.”
The group, Zuckerman said, is “confident that Steve Hauber is the right person to take the helm of this vibrant organization and to lead it into the future.”
Jack Williams, president of Gannett Digital Ventures, said Clipper wishes the founders all the best and “is deeply grateful for their vision and leadership of this important and growing brand. Steve Hauber is an enterprising executive with nearly 20 years of management, sales and marketing. He has deep digital experience and has spent the last 10 years at Gannett leading our health care division.”
Hauber was formerly CEO of Gannett Healthcare Group, a leading health care media company and the largest provider of continuing nursing education within the U.S. Hauber started his career as a television account executive in Central Pennsylvania and also held sales and marketing positions at top media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Random House, The Los Angeles Daily News and Genesis/New World Entertainment before joining Gannett in 2002.
Clipper mails 235 million magazines to approximately 28 million homes in 29 states each year and offers digital marketing solutions with coupon and deal sites. Clipper also operates Clipper Graphics, The Menu Company and Spencer Advertising and Marketing.
