Former Pennsylvania Department of Health Acting Secretary Alison Beam joins UPMC

Former Department of Health Acting Secretary Alison Beam is set to take over as UPMC’s vice president of government affairs and chief government relations officer in June.
The Pittsburgh-based health system announced last week that Beam will take over the roles when UPMC executive Scott Baker retires on June 30.
Beam previously served in an acting role as Pennsylvania’s Department of Health Secretary following Dr. Rachel Levine’s departure from the position in January 2021. Beam announced she would be leaving the role last December.
Before she was named acting secretary, Beam was deputy chief of staff in the office of Gov. Tom Wolf and chief of staff for the Pennsylvania Insurance Department.
As UPMC’s incoming vice president of government affairs and chief government relations officer, Beam replaces Baker, who has worked at the nonprofit medical system for ten years, shaping policy development of emerging health care priorities for the system.
“It is an honor to take on this role, as I have experienced first-hand UPMC’s firm commitment to serving the community and advocating for optimal health care for citizens of the state and beyond. My deepest gratitude to Scott for his service to the organization, and his consistent acumen and in-depth understanding of essential health care issues,” said Beam.
