Firm to build $14.2M affordable housing project in Robeson Township

The leaders of a Lancaster-based nonprofit see a strong need for new affordable housing in Berks County and are looking to fill that market with a $14.2 million project in Robeson Township.

Housing Development Corp. Mid-Atlantic will build River Run Meadows Apartments, a 58-unit complex covering roughly 50 acres on a wooded plot between Reading and Birdsboro off Route 724.

“An affordable housing project has not been built in Berks County in 10 years,” said Claude Hicks, HDC MidAtlantic’s director of real estate development. “The need is far greater than the 58 units we will be building. The general economic climate of the U.S. has given us a lot more people who qualify for affordable housing.”
